Expertise: employment law and mediation

Maurice Sijben has been working as a lawyer (in the Limburg district) for over 34 years. He is trained as an employment law specialist. Maurice Sijben is also a member of the Dutch Association of Mediation Lawyers (NVVMA).

In the field of employment law, he deals with, among other things, dismissal, labour disputes, reorganisations and takeovers, non-competition clauses, employers' liability and civil service law. He publishes publications and presentations, and is also associated with several companies, associations and foundations in South Limburg as an advisor, director and supervisory director.

In mediation, Maurice Sijben’s help is mainly sought in employment disputes, but also in family law issues and various other problems.

Vian Vonken specialises in employment law. He is used to taking a practical approach to matters, from both the employer’s and the employee’s point of view.

He was a member of the UWV Dismissal Advisory Committee on behalf of employers for many years, and is therefore very familiar with UWV procedures.

He has specific expertise in the field of dismissals, reorganisations, collective labour agreement law and scope research, civil service law, cross-border labour disputes, proceedings in the banking sector and proceedings against supranational organisations such as NATO.

Milan Gaber specialises in employment law. He completed the Grotius specialisation course in employment law (post-academic course). Milan Gaber has experience as both a lawyer and a corporate legal expert. As a corporate lawyer in the music & entertainment industry, he has a further specialisation in intellectual property law and (international) contract law. The combination of lawyer/corporate legal expert means Milan Gaber has special expertise at the intersection of HRM-related issues and employment law.

Milan is a member of the Copyright Association.

Lieke graduated in 2003 and has since worked for two legal expenses insurers, as well as in the legal profession.

She has assisted private clients, SMEs and larger companies in a wide variety of legal issues and disputes.

In 2018, Lieke moved to Sijben & Partners Advocaten and is mainly involved in general (litigation) practice including employment law. Lieke also specialises in rental law and construction law. Lieke is also a member of the association for construction lawyers (VBR-A). 

Working closely with the client. That’s her motto. She looks for solutions that do legal justice to the situation, but can also empathise with the often emotional aspects that clients experience during legal conflicts.

Stijn Hamers completed a Master’s Degree in Law and Labour at the University of Maastricht, specialising in labour and health law.  Stijn has been working at Sijben & Partners Advocaten since 2019.

At Sijben & Partners Advocaten, Stijn focuses on various legal areas, including employment law. In addition, Stijn is particularly interested in sports law.

Stijn contributed to the Journal of Sport & Law, writing an article about the doctor’s duty of confidentiality in professional football.

Expertise: contract and liability law, real estate law and personal injury

Beau van Hees completed a Master’s Degree in Dutch Law at the University of Maastricht, specialising in criminal law and private law. She has been working in legal practice since 2017.

Beau moved to Sijben & Partners Advocaten on 1 February 2021 and is mainly concerned with contract law and real estate law, but will also focus on issues relating to personal injury and inheritance law.

Her determination and drive ensures Beau is able to provide optimal representation in the interests of her clients. She has an eye for every detail and every important item, which means she brings every legal dispute to a pragmatic conclusion.

Firi Boukhris completed a Master’s Degree in commercial and corporate law at Maastricht University. She is also trained as a special curator in youth cases. Firi has gained experience in the legal profession and at various government agencies. She has also been a volunteer at the Limburg Children’s and Youth Rights Centre for several years.

Firi came to work at Sijben & Partners Advocaten at the beginning of 2021. At Sijben & Partners Advocaten she focuses on social security law, insolvency law, real estate law and insurance law.

José Grooten works at Sijben & Partners Advocaten in the position of office manager. Her tasks include processing the financial administration, secretarial support for the partnership, facility matters and support in the event of bankruptcies.

José has been working in the legal profession since 1986, was one of the founders of the current Sijben & Partners Advocaten, and over the years has gained the necessary experience within the law firm in the broadest sense of the word. The Dutch language is her hobby-horse.

Celine Schoenmakers started working as a secretary in 2013. Celine was promoted to the position of management assistant in 2020 and now heads the secretariat. Celine works in the employment law section. In addition to her secretarial duties, she is involved in PR activities, social media and runs our Sijben & Partners Academy.

Edith Voragen has been working as a legal secretary at Sijben & Partners Advocaten since 2016. Her tasks include secretarial support in the sectors of corporate law, bankruptcy law, personal and family law and debt collection through term monitoring, roll journal, processing incoming and outgoing correspondence and e-mails, (telephone) client contact, processing dictations, agenda management and declaring/invoicing. Before joining Sijben & Partners Advocaten, Edith gained more than 8 years of experience as a legal secretary at three law firms in the Parkstad region and Nieuwegein.
